LIVING HISTORY DETACHMENT
BRINGING MARINE CORPS HISTORY TO LIFE

Origins & Growth
The LHD began in December 2004 with two volunteers aiming to enhance the historical program for Marine recruits. Initially, the program featured 20-30 minute presentations at the Depot Museum, focusing on Marine Corps core values. These presentations included interpreters in period-correct uniforms, equipment, and weapons.
Over the years, the LHD has grown to approximately 25 active members, significantly expanding its capabilities. Since 2012, the LHD has participated in the Crucible’s final hike, marching alongside recruits in vintage uniforms and gear. This event has become a hallmark of the LHD, impacting over 7,000 recruits annually across at least 12 weekends each year.
Activities & Contributions
The LHD offers a variety of experiences, including:
Static Displays: Showcasing Marine Corps artifacts and history.
Battle Presentations: Reenacting historical battles.
Tactical Demonstrations: Featuring infantry weapons from WWI through Vietnam.
The LHD also supports active and reserve units, recruiting stations, Marine Corps Associations, Depot ceremonies, schools, air shows, reenactments, and parades.

The LHD’s contributions have been widely recognized:
